You gave Your life

You gave your life to purchase my innocence
You gave your life in pain and for truth
When I look up, I see you as King and priest
What can I do to give honour to you.

There by the cradle, the world watched expectantly
Your tiny hands the heavens constrained
All in a moment the heartache of centuries
Fell back defeated by the hope of Your grace

  • Tiny child, who could guess your significance
Who could see timelessness in your eyes
In our blindness we failed you in every sense
Now we come to pay homage to You
Let us come like the children You knew
  • Christmas again, a pledge of your immanence
Within our hearts the Christ child returns
Son of God, transform our indifference
Let's celebrate the gift of love that came to us first.
