Television producers and writers are still gripped by Beatlemania today, if these many references are anything to go by!

1. On Dawson's Creek...
      a)Billy, Dawson and Pacey are talking about... erm... "ladies of the night." Billy says, "It comes down to a simple Beatles or Stones question. Do you want to hold her hand or spend the night with her? Most women say they're looking for a Beatle but really they're looking for a Stone, something with a bit more substance." (Pfff... who'd favour Mick Jagger over a Beatle?? ;))
      b)Dawson is talking about finding his true path in life. Joey walks in with a "John Lennon: Imagine" poster. Joey: Remember when we were little, and we found all those Beatles records and listened to them on the porch for hours? And Gram told us to turn down that hippy music? Remember how you wanted to be like John?" Dawson: "I did?" Joey: "Yes.. you wanted to write hundreds of songs and change the world." They hang the poster in his room. Dawson: "Maybe John will help me to find my path." Joey: "You've always walked your own path Dawson.. you just need to widen it a little. And watch out for your Yoko."

2.In Roseanne...
      a)Roseanne accompanies Jackie to a counsellor. She says something like, "I'm not here for my problems.. just to help Eleanor Rigby here."
      b)Roseanne and Jackie are discussing womens liberation in music, and Jackie states that The Beatles were the only male band that didn't poorly portray women. However Roseanne mentions Run For Your Life and says, "... as if there weren't enough wifebeaters in the country already, they didn't need an anthem." True!
      c) It's Roseanne's birthday, and her present is the conversion of the basement into a room where she can write. As they take Roseanne to see her present they sing the Beatles version of Birthday and Roseanne says "Oh, you got me the Beatles!" Thanks Ray for 2.b) and c)!
     d) Jackie and Rosie's Mother says, "Why don't you name your kid after that rock star you like so much. Bongo." Jackie looks at Rosanne, confused, and Rosanne says, "Oh, I think she means Ringo." Thanks Kyle for 2.d)!   [ b a c k ]

3.In South Park...
      a)Mr Mackie, the school counsellor, was talking about drugs. He says, "Drugs are bad, ummkay. You shouldn't do drugs. Marijuana (pronouncing the 'j') is bad, ummkay. You shouldn't do marijuana. I'm going to pass around a sample of marijuana for everyone to smell, ummkay. Now, LSD is bad, ummkay. You shouldn't do LSD. LSD was made famous by John Lennon and Paul McCartney."
      b)Chef displays pictures of himself with celebrities. In one, he is with the Beatles.Ta Izzy!
      c) Mr Garrison: "Now children, who can tell me when Chubby Checker left The Beatles?"   [ b a c k ]

4.In an episode of Suddenly Susan, Jack is in hospital and he has a near-death experience where he thinks he hears God say something about carrots to him. Anyway, he's very puzzled by this. Finally it dawns on him.... he says to Louis, "I am the carrot!!!" to which Louis replies, "Goo goo g'joob!"  [ b a c k ]

5. In Red Dwarf...
      a)Lister had two fish called Lennon and McCartney.
      b)An episode in the seventh series is called Tikka To Ride.
      c)The crew find themselves in a parallel universe. Explains Holly, "Any part of our history could be changed. Hitler could have won the war... or it could have been something really incredible, likeRingowas actually a good drummer!" Boooo!
      d)An alien polymorph steals Rimmer's anger. He turns into a diplomatic greenie, wears a t-shirt that says, "Give Quiche a Chance" and tries to defeat the alien with a peace rally, singing, All You Need Is Love.
      e)In the "Tikka to Ride" episode of Red Dwarf, Lister is talking about Kennedy Airport and says "Who would name their kid after an airport?  Heathrow Lister?  John, Paul, George and Ringway?" Thanks Iain for 5 e)!  [ b a c k ]

6.The Australian lifestyle program Better Homes and Gardens uses a newer instrumental version of Getting Better as it's theme music.

7.The song Act Naturally was played during the animal actors segment in the 70th Annual Academy Awards (because of the line "you might win an Oscar, you can never tell"??)  [ b a c k ]

8.In Just Shoot Me...
      a) In one episode, the intern gives everyone funny nicknames whilst giving them coffee. When he comes to Maya, he says, "Cappuccino for the lovely Maya (then in an English accent) Meter Maid."Also in that episode, Finch says to Maya, "And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make" to get a hug. Later, he says the same thing to a model, (but slowly, as if he was making up something truly profound) to get another hug.
      b) Maya falls in love with a boy named Harrison, who says he was named after George Harrison when the Beatles came to America in 1964. Jack thinks the guy is his son with a woman while they watched the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. At the end of the episode, he goes back to the woman's house and says, "Put on the White Album!" 9.On an episode on Friends, Pheobe finds her real mother and they discover the things they have in common. The conversation goes something like: "I like pizza." "I like pizza, too!" "I like the Beatles." "Oh my gosh, I love the Beatles."  [ b a c k ]

10.In the The X-Files,
      a) In the episode "Unruhe"... Mulder: "What else happened in 1980, Gerry?"  Schnauz: "Well, John Lennon got shot. Where the hell are you going with this?"
    b) In the episode Hollywood AD, while examining an old bowl, they successfully read the clay bowl's vibrations and hear the ancient language Aramaic, which was spoken by Christ. It translates to: I am the walrus, I am the walrus, Paul is Dead, Coo-coo-ca-choo. Although there is no Aramaic word for "walrus." So it literally says "I am the bearded cow-like sea beast"! 11.In the TV series Sabrinia the Teenage Witch...
      a) The aunts are sitting at a table working on a puzzle. One of the aunts holds up a section the size of her palm and says, "O.K, I've finished Ringo's nose."
      b) In one episode, Salem remarks: "Who says you can't by love?" to which Sabrina replies, "Lennon and McCartney."
      c) When Sabrina and her friends become pop stars, they appear on a magizine cover walking across Abbey Road. Thanks Sheam for 11b & c!!  [ b a c k ]

12. There's probably thousands of references in the show The Wonder Years but here's some that I remember!
      a) One episode featured The Beatles on the "Ed Sullivan Show"
      b) There's a pic of Paul from the White Album hanging in the younger kid's room.
      c) Joe Cocker's version of With A Little Help From My Friends is the show's title theme.
      d)Ester adds....When Paul and Kevin are caught by Kevin's mum reading a book about sex... you can see a poster from theBeatles! movie Help! behind his bedroom door.
      e)Jessica adds.... An instrumental of Blackbirdis often played.
      f)Ray adds... In one episode Kevin's teacher asks, "Where do you learn your values from?" One of his classmates answers, "From the Beatles!"  [ b a c k ]

13. On a Nickelodeon show called Figure It Out (thanks Ann Arkee!) they featured a kid who could draw really good pictures one of those thingies, you know with the knobs, that you shake to erase the picture? Anyway, he drew a great picture of The Beatles singing.  [ b a c k ]

14. On the cartoon show shown in the US, Dexter's Laboratory an episode was titled, "A Hard Day's Day", with the squares like the British cover of the album. Thanks to Crystal, of Missouri, USA, for #13 & 14!   [ b a c k ]

15. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the TV series...
      a) The gang are doing research in the library looking for a weakness in this monster that's made of bugs. Xander finds him in the book and says something like "I found the bugman, goo goo g'joob."
      b) Spike is conversing with the part demon part human invention of the professor. Spike claims that he has separated Buffy and her friends witht the Yoko effect. He says that the Beatles were a great rock and roll band, and that the "Yoko Effect" split them up too. The human/demon creature then says that he knows of the Beatles and that his favourite song was Helter Skelter. Spike was not surprised (since the creature is obviously concerned only with chaos). 16. In an episode of NewsRadio, Lisa and Dave try to decide whether to tell everyone in the office about their relationship. Eventually, they tell their boss, Jimmy. He says to Lisa, "You don't want to tell everyone about this. Don't you know what people think of Yoko Ono?" She nods glumly. Then he says to Dave "And you, do you want people to think of you like Paul McCartney?" Dave says "Don't you mean John Lennon, sir?" Jimmy says "No, people liked him."   [ b a c k ]

17. On the Canadian Red Green Show, there's a character called Hap who is the local tall-tale teller. One time Hap was telling Red about the time he invented Christmas lights. He was fighting in Germany during the war, and his unit had to take cover in a lightbulb factory. He says, "My sergeant, Sergeant... Pepper - he wanted to retreat..."   [ b a c k ]

18. The following references are from the Canadian comedy show, Kids In The Hall...
     a) In a skit in which a man is on trial for sexually harassing himself (uh.. don't ask :o)) he defends himself by saying, "And I'd like to say that I believe in that saying by the Beatlesthat "All you need is love"... though I don't much like their music."
      b) In a sketch called, "The Real Buddy Holly", Buddy Holly is verbally absuing the guy loading his luggage on the plane. "Do you know who I am? I'm Buddy Holly! Who knows what hard-working groups in places like...(shrugs) Liverpool, England I'm influencing right now!"
      c) There's another sketch where two guys are talking at a party. The first guy says to the other, "I know it's a cliche, but I still think that Sgt Pepper is the greatest album of all time.." The other guy says, "Sgt Pepper? What's that?" Anyway the other guy explains that he was locked up in a basement for the 60's, that's why he'd never heard of the Beatles. In the end, it turns out that he was joking and he says, "Of course I've heard of the Beatles, you moron! Hey everyone, I just told this guy that my *crazy* dad locked me in the basement for 10 years!" and he walks away laughing hysterically. Thanks to Sarah Anne for #15 to 18!   [ b a c k ]

19. In Full House ...
      a) Jesse has built a studio in the basement and warns no-one to disturb him when he's recording. Anyways, the door handle breaks, and he's stuck inside, so he screams, "Help!" Joey comes along and says, "Oh, he's singing that Beatles song, 'Help!'
      b) When it is Jesse's birthday, the whole house wakes him by singing, funnily enough, Birthday.
      c) A cover of Good Day Sunshine is played while DJ is riding her horse, and a cover of Drive My Car is played while they're (surprise!) riding in their car.Thanks Izzy for #19b) & c)!   [ b a c k ]

20.In the Australian football show Live and Kicking they used "Eight Days A Week" to do a comedy skit thing. Like they had a Bruce McAveney (a footy commentator) singing, "I wish I could ca-alll, eight games a week!!"   [ b a c k ]

21.On the Australian quiz show Battle of the Sexesthey had a topic called, "Where'd My Ringo?" The contestant had to answer 'yeah-yeah' if the host said a character out of a Beatles song.   [ b a c k ]

22. In 3rd Rock From The Sun...
      a) Dick is talking to Judith in her office in the episode where Mary thinks everyone is conspiring against her. Before he leaves, he says, "Hey, Jude, I've got to go..."
      b)  When Tommy, Harry and Sally think that Mary is breaking up the Solomons, Sally says "She's like that Yoko woman who broke up her husband's band". Thanks Natasha for 22.b)!  [ b a c k ]

23. In the Irish comedy Father Ted, Fathers Dougall and Ted are talking about the life of Father Jack, an old crabby priest who died after drinking floor polish. Dougall says, "And he was the first priest to denounce the Beatles. Oh yeah, he could see what they were up to."   [ b a c k ]

24. There was an episode of Dark Skieswhere people are brainwashed and try to kill themselves when they hear the word 'money'. So one girl at the Ed Sullivan theater hears the Beatles sing "Money" (but I don't think they did really!) and tries to jump off the balcony. Thanks Izzy!   [ b a c k ]

25. In the MTV show Daria...
      a) Daria is accused of corrupting a sheltered nerdy guy. His parents show hers the evidence - a little plastic bag... containing gum... and a cassette. Her dad reads the title and says incrediously, "The Beatles?!?"
      b) Daria's ditzy sister, Quinn, is raving about a new mall, 'The Field.' She says, "You know, they say you can shop in the Field forever..." Daria replies, "You know, if you play that John Lennon song backwards, it says, "Imagine all the people, browsing in a mall." Isn't that weird?"   [ b a c k ]

26. The title credits music for the tv show Life Goes On is Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da.   [ b a c k ]

27. In the cartoon series Animaniacs, the younger Warner brother, 'Yakko', sounds just like Ringo: accent, voice, and occasionally vernacular. Thanks to Studebaker Hoch for #26 & 27!  [ b a c k ]

28. In the Australian soap Neighbours...
      a) Billy is whinging about the blister he got after working on a building site. His sister Libby teases, "Oh, the world's second greatest working class hero... right after John Lennon."
      b) Dr. Carl Kennedy, a wannabe muso, wants to convert his son Billy's old room into a studio. "But it makes sense for me to have a soundproof music room in there!" he says. His wife Susan retorts, "No, it'd make sense for Paul McCartney to have a music room in his house!"   [ b a c k ]

29. In All That (on Nickelodeon)..
      a) One episode has a cafeteria lady giving out peas. When the last person didn't want them, she got the whole cafeteria singing Give Peas A Chance. Thanks McKenna!
      b) Superdude's girlfriend's name is Penny Lane.
      c) Ed brings his pet bugs to the Good Burger (his job) but drops them. He manages to pick all but one up, but the boss calls an exterminator. The boss: "Get that beetle!!" 30. From The Nanny...
      a) Fran says to Mr. Sheffield "I can be Eleanor Roosevelt in your play! 'Ah, look at all the lonely people..." He says, "That's Eleanor Rigby... don't quit your day job."
      b) Two people are talking about tax records and one says, "What kinds of records did you buy?" "Oh, the Bee Gees, The White Album..."
      c) C.C. Babcock, Mr.Sheffield's business partner, panics when Fran and Mr.Sheffield get engaged. The butler walks by and says,"Oh there there, this won't hurt your partnership. When John married Yoko, it didn't break up The Beatles, did it?" She screams.
      d) Fran and Mr. Sheffield walk out of a Stone Temple Pilots concert rubbing their ears. Mr. Sheffield whines, "I want to hold your hand, that was good music! She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah!"
      e) Fran misunderstands song lyrics: "I never understoodLucy in the Sky With Diamonds. "The girl with colitis goes by..?"
      f) Fran, her mother (Sylvia) and the kids are looking at old stuff in the attic. Sylvia pulls out a wig. "It's your father's old Beatles toupee! He loved Ringo." Putting the wig on one of the kid's heads she says, "Can you say "Yeah Yeah Yeah?"
      g) Mr.Sheffield is explaining that people hire him because he looks good, not because of his talent."I'm a one man, moptop British Invasion!", he cries. Fran screams back, "Calm down, Ringo!"
      g) After Fran has been mugged:  Fran:Oh my God! I think I see him... No wait that's Yoko Ono! *(Screams)*  Mr. Sheffield: I know, I know, I have her record!  Thanks Samantha for 30h)!   [ b a c k ]

31.Yoko Ono once guest-starred on Mad About You, wanting Paul Reiser to film the wind. She eventually admits that it was a bad idea. "Every one has bad ideas, Paul," She says. "You know, John once wanted Ringo to be at the front of the stage!" While the credits are rolling,Paul, Yoko,and Helen Hunt re-create the bed-in while Give Peace a Chance plays in the background.  [ b a c k ]

32.Random Play, a comedy skit show, has featured skits including 'Ringo Starr's Rock'n'Roll Camp', and a fake ad for a video called 'John and Yoko's Private Moments', in which they play Battleship, go grocery shopping, and knock on doors before screaming "Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!" and running away.   [ b a c k ]

33. From Saturday Night Live...
      a) People in Central Park are mourning John when his spirit suddenly appears! They ask him questions but he never gives a straight answer... (i.e. "What's heaven like?" "What isn't it like?" "Do you miss it down here?" "Don't I miss it?" "I don't understand." "Well, don't over-sit!")
      b) This is an old one... but so great! :) In 1976, the Beatles were offered $3200 to play on the show. John and Paul were watching it together and actually hailed cab but decided they were too tired at the last minute!
      c) Eddie Murphy claims to be the real 5th Beatle... a sax player named Clyde. He says that She Loves You was first called She Loves You, Man. He plays the record forwards ("She loves you MAN, Yeah MAN.." etc) then backwards... to hear "Hey Paul, let's kick Clyde out of the band to become famous on our own!"
      d) In a Wayne's World sketch, Wayne and Garth do a top 10 list of why it sucks that the Soviet Union broke up. One of them was "Do the lyrics to Back in the USSR have to be changed? 34. In Dharma and Greg...
      a) There's a screen at the end of the credits that you have to record and pause to read... (yes I actually bothered!!) It's some guy's 'vanity card', about his beliefs or something. Anyways, he wrote... "I believe it's high time the Beatles came clean about the whole "Paul is dead" thing."
      b) Greg is stressing about the tripometer thingy in his car. Dharma says, "Do you know that The Long and Winding Road is exactly six miles long?"
      c) Greg is talking to a hotel clerk on the phone but Dharma mumbles something into the receiver and then hangs it up. Greg calls back and the clerk says, "Oh yes, the gentleman who had to take a phonecall from the Beatles.." Thanks Greenmyst for #34.b!  [ b a c k ]

35.On the US show Nick at Nite, there's a commercial for I Love Lucy that contains tons of Beatle references. They show a 'Meet the Beatles' cover replacing the Beatles' faces with that of Ricky, Lucy, Fred, and Ethel and they name songs that resemble the Beatles' closely... like 'Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds' with a clip of Lucy dressed-up as a movie star. 36. "The Three Doctors" episode of the British sci-fi Dr. Who, the Doctor introduces his assistant Jo to a past version of himself. Doctor (older): "Well you see, I am him." Doctor (younger): "And he is me." Jo: "And we are all together, goo goo g'joob?" Thanks Studebaker Hoch!   [ b a c k ]

37. An episode of Beverley Hills 90210 is called, "You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello" (from the Beatles' song "Hello Goodbye".)   [ b a c k ]

38. On an old episode of the classic Australian drama A Country Practice, the folk are organising a 40's ball. Getting enthused, the young doctor sings an old tune. To Hugo, "Who's that by?" He guesses, "The Beatles?" Doctor: "Pff. Maybe we should throw in some 60's for the kids." Hugo: "Kids?!?" (he's at least 20.) Doctor: "Hugo here wasn't even born when the Beatles broke up!"   [ b a c k ]

39. The last episode of Home Improvementwas called, "The Long and Winding Road."   [ b a c k ]

40. In a sci-fi show similar to Sliders, the main character, travels back to his family in 1968. He talks to his younger sister about the Beatles and their impending breakup. He tells her that Paul will form a band called Wings, George will do a concert for Bangladesh, and mentions something that Ringo does too. When he gets to John, he hesitates, and then picks up a guitar and says, "John is going to write one of my favorite songs." and starts playing Imagine. Thanks Marty Rotten!

41. On the cartoon show Histeria!...
    a)Paul appears in a skit where there's an episode of the dating game with famous composers as contestants. He appears playing "Silly Love Songs" with a caption under him reading "PAUL (was the walrus)" There's also a skit where a really stupid girl has to interview Vladmir LENIN and thinks it's John. (eg: "What was it like to work with Paul McCartney?" "I don't know who you are talking about. I worked on the communist revolution.")
    b)The kids are with Thomas Edison. Thomas runs over to Toast who is playing his guitar and singing and says he is recording his new song. Lucky Bob then steps up to the mike and says, 'I am the walrus!'
    c)On another episode where they are talking about Rosa Parks, Cho cho is on the bus with Toast. Toast is playing music and Cho cho is just screaming. She then says, "When I grow up, I will change my name to Yoko Ono!" Ta Nell for 41b) & c)! [ b a c k ]

42.On a new MTV show, Head Trip, someone does a voice-over to make fun of videos. A voice with a British accent was overdubbed on a Sean Lennon video, and when a part with shadows came up, it said, "Me dad taught me shadow puppets. There's Henry the Horse, and the Walrus. 44. In Men Behaving Badly, a British comedy...
    a)Tony and Dorothy are talking about her relationship with Garry. Tony finishes up his spiel with, "And with a love like that, you know you should be glad."
    b)In another episode, Dermot visits the bank to fund a night out with Deborah, and the manager advises "Money can't buy me love, can't buy me love, oh!" Thanks Clare!! :)
    c)One episode sees an old man (Garry's employee, I think) go to hopsital due to an office accident. Garry gives him a gift of a mouth organ. Dorothy recounts, "He was just learning to play 'Love Me Do' when a heart-transplant paitent tried to stangle him with his drip tube."   [ b a c k ]

45. ATV sued Sesame Street a few years ago for parodying Beatles songs without permission, including Hey Foodand Letter B. "When I want to know what letter, comes after A and before C, my mommy always tells me, letter B." Thanks again Izzy!!  [ b a c k ]

46. On the show Doug, there's a group called the Beets that's obviously a Beatles imitation. Their drummer has a big nose, and the guitarist looks like John a bit. Their last album was called Let it Beet, with a cover that looks exactly like Let it Be.  [ b a c k ]

47. On an episodeof the A-Team (a popular show in the US in the 80's), one of the characters, "Howling Mad" Murdock, chats to a guest character, a vet named Dr. Kelly Stevens. He asks her, "So, do you like the Rolling Stones?"She answers, "Oh, yeah! I even have a favorite song,'Norwegian Wood.' Murdock: "That was the Beatles." 48. In one episode of The Adventures of Winne The Pooh, Tigger is naming all of the wishes he wants, and for one he says "and I want a submarine in a sea of green!"   [ b a c k ]

49. In Alvin And The Chipmunks, Alvin was talking to reporters. They ask what they thought of their band, Simon tries to keep Alvin quiet, but Alvin pushed him away and says, "We are more famous than Mickey Mouse." 52.Working, the cast forms into groups to discuss severance packages. They nickname themselves 'The Fab Four'. Also, Fred Savage has a relationship with a conceptual artist. They end up dressing like John and Yoko and walking across Abbey Road. Thanks acrook!  [ b a c k ]

53. On Snit Station, sort of a "show between the shows" on the Canadian channel YTV, Snit is trying to get Denise to wear a weird feathery outfit. She doesn't like it. Snit says, "You'd be free as a bird. And imagine, if you fell..." Thanks Sytel!  [ b a c k ]

54. A cover of 'In My Life' is played during the opening credits of the US show Providence.   [ b a c k ]

56. On the English show Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned, one of the comedians is talking about he is a huge Beatle fan, and has all their albums. He says, "I think Ringo never got enough lead vocals. Imagine if he had, the Beatles' whole career would have been different... "The long and winding road..." [he sings, putting on a deep Ringo voice and pronouncing the 'g' Liverpudlian-style.] "I mean, no-one would have bought it. It would have been a totally different world."  [ b a c k ]

58. On the game show Win Ben Stein's Money, the host (Ben Stein) starts off each show with a song lyric. The three Goodies attempt to play an original style of music, and can be seen in the Cavern playing some familiar-sounding tunes. A mannequin takes George's place (the Quiet Beatle!). The crowd, consisting mainly of businessmen, throw lettuces at the Goodies in protest. The 'real' Beatles go and pick up their sheet music... eg, "Eleanor Rigby, written by the Goodies", and then go and give a concert. The Girls had to fight a group called the Beat-Alls and were helped by Moko Jono.  A documentary is done on the Bad Four by a reporter named Stuart Best, who looks like Pete Best. Also, most of the dialogue is cleverly placed Beatle quotes, and the music throughout sort of parodied their music. Also, The Bad Four break up because the one who is supposed to portray John takes up with Moko Jono (whose version of screaming is this high pitched shrieking!!!) Thanks Jessica!

They come home to discover the band, The Standells, has thrown a swinging party! They sing "Let's Do the Ringo" which has a "yeah, yeah, yeah" finale, and "I Want to Hold Your Hand".
